SEOContest2008

I joined the contest SEOContest2008 and apparently, I found out with a clarification from the people running the contest that my contest entry was not allowed, thus I need to modify it asap. Since if I don’t, it may not be enough time to catch up with the others. Although I know it is still possible to win, it would just be hard to do with the shorter time span I have. But let’s see what we can do.

Now since anything can happen in this contest, in this blog, I am going to specify each SEO problem I encounter in this SEOContest2008 and how I am going to solve it. Ok, now let’s start of my first problem…

SEOContest2008 Problem 1: Site Downtime

This website can experience 3 errors as mention in my earlier blog post.

Solutions:

1. Setup a new web hosting account as fast as possible. This is to avoid Googlbot and other bots to see any significant amount of downtime showing Server Not Found. 48 hours seems enough time to get a site back up and still good with Google and other search engines. (Although this SEO Contest is a Google specific contest). Which is already what you see right now.
2. Fix Broken site. First of all, my site has already gained some level of popularity because of the design which was featured on several web design galleries. I do not want to disappoint them and see a different site. I am going to place the same website template right away after I type this post.
3. Tons of missing page have to redirect to the homepage. First is I lost the link authority of a previous site this site was parked on. Bad thing is all those pages were mapped out already and Googlebot recognized them and indexed these pages already. So what I will do is…
   1. Redirect indexed pages to homepage, although I lose the benefit in doing this since there will be no more links going to the inside pages as the 301s from another domain are dead already. Probably in two days, Google will remove the pages from the index already.
   2. Edit my search engine XML sitemaps and ping Google so it gets the latest updates. I will use the Google webmaster tools as well to see any indexing problems.

Let me work on this these first and after I am done I will update you on my next SEO problem. Don’t take so long, I will do this as fast as I can and check the improvements as we go along. See you again later.
