SEO Contest & Spamming Sphinn
By SEOContest2008 - Posted on Sun Oct 19, 2008We all know links help in ranking. And in SEO contest, many are involved in various link building strategies. Whitehat link baiting to the extreme blatant artificial link building. Many competitors like using social bookmarking sites and many keep bookmarking tons of useless content just for the link from a social bookmarking site.
Social bookmarking is a fine way to gain links, but I am noticing in many SEO contest, people submitting useless pages or irrelevant pages to niche social bookmarking sites. And probably the worst place to submit a SEO contest entry in a social bookmarking site is on Sphinn.
I mean c’mon dude, Sphinn is a social bookmarking site of SEO people, PPC people and all other people that revolve in those circles. They see any sort of spamming in anyway, they will remove it.
Even if it does not get remove, gets past moderation because all moderators/admins on Sphinn are also busy and is not reviewed manually that well and you get only 1 Sphinn, sooner or later, someone is going to find out it was only for an SEO contest. Now let’s say they found out after the contest and you benefited from that single Sphinn link in whatever way. Moderators will remove it after the contest. But they will remember you, your username and if you have all your information in there, they will just remember who you are.
In SEO, SEO is a people business. Networking with other SEOs is always beneficial in this industry. And you never want to make a bad impression of yourself to other SEO people.
I know I have used social bookmarking in many ways in my SEO efforts, but I made sure I really had something nice to offer people that they will like what I have to say so it is “bookmark-worthy.” And in the end, even more people bookmark it if it is really that good.
I have personally joined the SEO contest with the keyword Promotional Items Corporate Gifts Srednarb. And I have seen several competitors bookmark left and right in every possible way. This particular contest is a Filipino only SEO competition and was promoted on the SEO Philippines forum. Many of the competitors that join, I personally know in the forum, others I may not yet know that much. I have seen 5 pages submitted on Sphinn by at 3 different people that used Sphinn for promoting their seo contest entries for this particular contest and I just tell it to my Sphinn friends and they report it as spam once they see it. So far 4 previous submissions on Sphinn were already removed and one is already desphunn and was reported as spam just a few hours ago.
Being a part of the SEO Philippines community, my shoutout call to everyone on Sphinn is I hope you do not generalize the whole country as social bookmarking spammers or simply spammers in general. There are many Filipinos who are very good in SEO and many outsource companies also exist there that are the top choice SEO outsource resource, but then again, there are still some that maybe either:
- Misguided and still in their learning process.
- Innocently not knowledgeable.
- Simply blatantly spamming.
The sad news is the great number of people behind the scenes are rarely seen and are covered up as an outsource company and the one that may have done a mistake gets the most attention and is where the stereotype misconception may come out.
I urge also every Filipino, do what you want. Let’s say you really want to spam. Maybe it is really your style, maybe not. But if you are going to spam social bookmarking sites for an SEO Contest like with Promotional Items Corporate Gifts Srednarb, do it elsewhere and not on Sphinn. All the best SEO people in the world checks Sphinn. Whatever you plan on doing, they know your plan once they see it. Even the grandfathers of SEO like Danny SullivanĀ is on Sphinn. (Errr… hmmm grandfather… maybe not a nice word. That sounds too old.
) He runs Sphinn, you can almost say He IS Sphinn. *LOL* Protect your image and submit good content on Sphinn. Remember Sphinn is all about internet marketing, from SEO, PPC, SMO and all other types of online marketing. SEO Contest may be SEO related but if you are just posting for the link going to your entry, it is not worth it in my opinion and you just give that bad impression of who you are to the SEO community.
For my co-members on the SEO Philippines forum, if you believe I am partly the reason why your entries were removed on Sphinn, sorry about that. I probably am. If that made you mad, I hope you are not. Going to the top 3 bullet points above, I hope you are just misguided and in the learning process or innocently not knowledgeable. But if you are just blatantly spamming Sphinn, sorry again, I will always request Sphinn to remove your entries unless they are relevant in some what to what people want to see on Sphinn. Nothing personal, just helping clean up the results.
