Countdown Timer And Google API Ranking Script For SEOContest2008
By SEOContest2008 - Posted on Fri Mar 7, 2008I haven’t played that much with Google’s API yet since I never had the reason to do so. Kudos to all the competitors that start making their own powerful ranking scripts with all the historical data, good work! This just made me want to play around with the API too. Being an old school web designer/developer, and started SEO a bit early, I still have Google’s SOAP API key which they no longer release. Today what they run is the AJAX API. Although Google discontinued the SOAP API, they still support it to those that still have the key. And I decided to play around with mine. And all I did was a top 10 list of SEOContest2008 competitors on my side bar.
And just to make it user friendly to others, I turned it into a link as well, but made some redirection and included an nofollow too so that no link juice goes out. This way I do not always need to check the SERPs all the time. But then again, I sometimes still do since not all datacenters are the same.
Aside from adding this on the site, I also added a JavaScript countdown timer on the page. It supposed to end on April 1, 2008, 1:00pm at 0:00 GMT. I did not do any extra calculation on timezone and I may be wrong. But I felt lazy even checking. If my programming is correct, the timer should be correct.
